The main purpose of the sustainability committee is to ensure that the sustainability strategy positions the company as a leader in retail and the objectives are effectively integrated into the business.
Members: Simon Susman (Chairman), Tom Boardman, Chris Nissen and Stuart Rose and the Group chief executive officer and Managing Director of food.
The Committee’s terms of reference include the following responsibilities:
| • | confirming the overall business strategy in relation to sustainability; |
| • | reviewing and approving the sustainability targets; |
| • | reviewing performance against the sustainability targets; |
| • | assessing and monitoring the company’s ethics policy for approval by the board; |
| • | ensuring that the company’s ethics policy is being appropriately applied; and |
| • | reviewing and approving the external sustainability report. |
The committee meets four times a year and the committee Chairman reports back to the board on the activities of the committee. The minutes of the committee meetings are circulated to all directors.
