Drive social development
Enteprise development
Working closely with emerging suppliers, Woolworths is committed to sharing expertise and best practice and helping to identify opportunities for suppliers to grow with Woolworths, as has been the case, for example, with a group of herb farmers in the Western Cape who now provide the basil for many of Woolworths Italian pesto sauces.
Significantly increase our social contribution
Woolworths already makes a substantial contribution to the community through the distribution of surplus food, the Woolworths Trust and our MySchool programme.
The commitment is to significantly increase this contribution, making an even greater difference to the lives of many South Africans:
- increase social contributions to more than R300m by 2012
- expand the Eduplant programme to deepen the support and broaden the reach and impact;
- introduce an awareness and fund-raising programme in stores to raise money for orphans and vulnerable children;
- develop a more effective model, preferably through an enterprise development initiative, to distribute our surplus food and clothing; and
- support our +17 000 employees in their community initiatives with matching corporate funds to increase their contribution to needy causes at a local level.
