WOOLWORTHS “BACK TO SCHOOL” MOM'S TOUR PROMOTES HEALTHY EATING
January 12, 2012
Woolworths will once again host dietitian-led Mom’s Store Tours to give parents the opportunity to learn more about healthy school lunchbox options at the beginning of a new school year. The “Back to School” Mom’s Store Tours will take place in Cape Town (Woolworths Willowbridge, 31 January), Gauteng (Woolworths Irene Mall, 26 January) and Durban (Woolworths Hillcrest, 1 February) and will specifically focus on nutritional advice for parents of school-going children. Mom’s Store Tours are part of Woolworths Educational Programme for primary schools, which has been helping teachers and parents teach Grade 4 learners in some 1600 schools about nutrition, healthy living and caring for the environment for over eight years, and is part of Woolworths Good Business Journey. Tours are open to customers, parents of learners from participating schools, as well as the general public. Dietitians will take small groups of parents around the store and provide valuable information about good food choices for school lunchboxes and the importance of balanced meals and healthy snacks for learners. “We need to address the importance of nutrition for learners and find creative solutions to take the stress out of packing lunchboxes, while at the same time providing a varied and healthy lunch box,” explains the Woolworths Educational Programme’s manager, Pieter Twine. “By hosting these Mom’s Store Tours we try and give the working mom a ‘quick and easy guide’ to satisfying her child’s nutritional needs,” concludes Twine. Says Woolworths Dietitian Maryke van Zyl, “Parents often ask me to suggest content for school lunchboxes. With these tours we will try and provide useful guidelines to help them put together balanced lunchboxes and understand the nutritional information provided on labels. We also encourage participants to ask as many questions as possible on the store tour, so we can assist with those on the spot.” For more information or to book your place on a Woolworths Mom’s Store Tour near you, contact amandamhluzi@woolworths.co.za. s…
