Woolworths maintains its position as the cream of the crop in the dairy industry by taking home some of this year’s most prestigious awards. With a wide selection of the finest quality dairy products, it’s no wonder they’ve stolen the show at this year’s annual Dairy Championships.

This year’s National Dairy Championship had a total of 900 products entered by 68 manufacturers, in more than 100 different classes. Woolworths’ award-winning streak continued this year as they took home multiple awards across numerous categories, collecting 96 awards, beating the previous competition’s result of 81 awards. 40 of these awards were first prizes, out of 106 first prizes presented across the competition.

The SA Dairy Championships is a prestigious event aimed at recognising only the finest quality dairy products which have been judged based on strict and specific criteria. The championships consist of ten categories (cheese, butter, yoghurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, cultured and flavoured milk, dairy desserts, dairy dips, milk and UHT milk, cream) and more than one hundred classes of products in the dairy industry.

The awards, hosted by Agri-Expo since 1834, attracts close to one thousand entries from large, medium and small manufacturers. Dairy products are judged by a panel of 75 experts who evaluate the appearance, texture and flavour of products. Products compete for the titles of SA Dairy Champion, Qualité and the ultimate, Product of the Year.

The winners in each class are crowned SA Champions, and only products of exceptional standard are awarded the Qualité award, a symbol of outstanding quality. Only a limited number of products obtain this prestigious award, and they are then allowed to display the distinctive logo on their packaging for the ensuing year.

Of the 8 Qualité awards, Woolworths nabbed 2 of them, both of which were exclusively awarded to Woolworths.

But the highlight of the evening, coming as no surprise, was Woolies bagging the Product of the Year award for its 10 Month Mature gouda, voted the best Dairy product in the country for the third time, having received this title in both the 2017 and 2018.

The impressive collection of accolades achieved by Woolworths is a clear reflection of their ongoing dedication to offering consumers only the finest selection of quality dairy products, year after year.
