WOOLWORTHS MOBILIZES SCHOOLS TO KEEP SOUTH AFRICA’S BEACHES CLEAN
September 26, 2011
On Saturday, 17 September the Woolworths: Making the Difference Educational Programme mobilised schools they work with throughout the year to join in the International Coastal Clean-Up Day. Hundreds of learners in Cape Town arrived to clean-up Sunrise Beach in Muizenburg. The annual International Coastal Clean-Up is one of the world’s largest volunteer efforts for ocean health and the culmination of Clean-Up South Africa Week. This is the second year that the Woolworths Educational Programme is participating. “Woolworths, as part of the Good business journey, has always maintained a strong focus on protecting the environment and teaching young learners the importance of nurturing our natural resources and ecosystems,” says Pieter Twine, Woolworths General Manager: Loyalty & MySchool. “International Coastal Clean-up Day is a wonderful opportunity for them to put their lessons to good use.”
